As it is now, for example, nobody would drive a natural gas vehicle as a private vehicle because where would you fill up with natural gas ? Do you really want to be riding down the interstate low on fuel and have to start calling around asking where the nearest nat gas station is ?
The problem isn't government trying to help solve our problem, it's the federal government trying to. If the states of Texas or Oklahoma tried to give tax rebate to gas stations or car dealers for natural gas, then we'd have far fewer problems. Those two states aren't trying fifteen other thing and can reverse themselves quickly. It would be a good idea in those states because they have plenty of natural gas. When you get the fed involved you get states that have no NG crying that they have to get money to for they're scemes which aren't such good ideas.

But this has been a growing problem for years. The easy example is education. Once all decisions were made be the local school district, then by the county, then by the state now more and more the fed is getting involved. This locks up new ideas. If you have to get a couple hundred million people to agree before you can even try anything then nothing gets tried. To get back on track we need a sift in people preception. A realignment of power so more people pay attention to they're local officials and less attention to the fed. To pull this off would require a major revamping of our system and it would be hard to get the people to go along.

Think about convincing most American that the president shouldn't be elected by popular vote and should have most of his athority stripped away, then try to get them to go back to they're senators being elected by they're state senates. Then stiking down a whole series of laws enacted in the past hundred years.

It will happen, some time in the future and probably with out the consent of the fed. But for now the only thing left is to stand against as much as possible and hope for the best.
