Good Old Boat in NOVA????

Hi Folks,

I will be in the market for a “good old boat” within 23-27 foot range. I would prefer a “sail way” condition daysailer. I haven’t narrowed it down to a make or model yet, I want to keep my options open. Light wind sailer would be a plus. I will be doing the bulk of my sailing in the Potomac, Occoquan Rivers and Chesapeake Bay for the foreseeable future.

My budget for a turn key boat is about 5K including slip fees (my HOA) won’t allow stowage on the property.

I’ve been monitoring craigslist and been to a couple of the local marinas. Had one dealer show me a 1988 Hunter 240? That fit within my budget, he stated that she is sailable now after a good power wash. I am sure it would be if it wasn’t for a gaping hole in the transom.

I subscribe to good old boat and small craft advisor plus I have a couple of DIY books on refitting and surveying.

I would like to solicitate for advice from folks that have been there done that and point me in the right direction before I commit a “kings ransom” to the project.

Thanks
Nick
