Success
The Boater's Swap Meet organized by Steve Fredrick at the Bradenton YC yesterday AM was a great success. Though small, because of a number of manufacturers in the area, and the number of boater's, there were a lot of excellent deals made.
Although in some cases, exchanges will merely amount to junk moving from one family's garage to another for a modest fee, there were also some real bargains. Our Commodore was able to purchase a nearly new 2000 watt Xantrex (Heart) Inverter for $75.00 USD! We managed to obtain a new, still in the box (with the $455.00 USD price tag still affixed), Richie Compass, to replace our 23 year old, discolored, all but unreadable OEM Marco Polo for $100.00 USD. We also, finally, managed to sell our 20 year old Magma Charcoal Grill--of which there were many offered, but none but ours cleaned and polished--for $10.00 (and free up a corner of the garage) and a tried out once heavy Faberware 8-Cup SS Coffee Percolator for $10.00, or less than half its retail price (my wife prefers the tea kettle and there isn't room for both in the pots locker).
Other values included a new FX-55 anchor for $400.00; and, a 15' Forespar spinnaker pole for $100.00.
The boys are now planning next years event so stay tuned!
