Soon to be Living the Dream!

Hey Everyone,

I've been visiting this site on a daily basis for about 2 years, and I'm almost ashamed that i haven't even contributed a post until now. I've been looking at boats for some time, and have yet to find that perfect boat. I'm also very aware that it doesn't exist, and I've come to the point of not falling in love with any boat on YW either.

I plan on buying and moving aboard a boat this June. I've been looking at many boats, and I recently have noticed a couple Cal 34's and a Cal 31 that seem to fit my wants/needs. After researching both its seems the 2 are very similar in many aspects as well as LWL and beam, and that the cockpit size is the major difference. Also, from looking at pictures it seems the 34's keel is longer, but both have a 5' draft.

Does anyone know if there are any other differences in terms of sailing characteristics? Are they equally as good at making passages, given it was with the same skilled crew?

I've also looked at a Dufour 31 that seems like it could meet my criteria. Who knows what will happen in the end!

I would be mostly coastal cruising for the first year, then sailing south from BC to Mexico, with the intention of doing some offshore sailing.

Anyways i thought i would semi-introduce myself, as in the near future i know i will need the help of Sailnet many times over.
