Where to Put Boat in Summer?

Gung:

As you might suspect, your desire to leave the boat in the Caribbean during the summer storm season is widely shared. There are yards - many here in Trinidad - where boats are left on the hard for months at a time. Peake Yacht Svcs is a well-known one; they even have a ''high security yard'' inside their regular yard for this purpose.

Some leave their boats on a mooring (TTSA is a common place) or in a slip (at the TTYC, e.g.) tho'' this is less popular - more cost; requires bottom cleaning occasionally, etc.

We''ve heard that one of the yards in Grenada will even ''trench'' the boat: dig a trench for the boat''s keel so that, should a storm hit there, it can''t fully capsize. This is more common in the French SoPac islands.

As for cost, Peake (about as upscale as you''ll find down here) quotes $.20/ft/day for the regular yard, $.25/ft/day for the high security area (which is tough to get into; very popular).
