US documentation for UK boat?

When we bought a Swedish-registered boat (for which duty was also paid to Customs), the original builder''s certificate was a requirement of the USCG. In my case, I wrote to Halberg-Rassey in Sweden and it was quickly provided. In addition, I needed to provide a Bill of Sale and a written description (on the documentation application, if I remember correctly) of the ownership sequence (trail of owners).
Getting the right scoop on the *current* requirements is an important step in acquiring a boat to be documented; you need to call the USCG Doc Center in West Virgina on their 800#.
