Those are good numbers - 69% think he is doing as good or better than they expected. AND, as with all polls, there are some problems....
For instance, the 31% who say he is doing worse than expected...well, you guessed it, that is the same exact percentage of people who consider themselves Republicans and....no matter what.....would not say he was doing better than expected, because they hate his guts (generally speaking, here)....
There is definitely a big difference, IMHO, of having a thinking man in the White House who measures his words and actions. For instance, today he said he was NOT a Miracle worker..and that he was pleased, but NOT SATISFIED with what has been accomplished.
He also uses uniting language - I heard a sound bite "today is my 100th day as YOUR President"......when I heard it I thought that, if that was was GW, he would have said "today is my 100th day as President" or "as the President".
I like those little touches because I think that the man honestly thinks of himself as that - our OUR President, not THE President (or decider, etc.).....and that is a bit of humility which goes a long way.
He has already said clearly many times - vote him out if you don't like the job he does over the next couple of years. Again, that is different than GW who, when he won re-election bragged about his mandate and political capital and how he was going to USE them...cash his chips in, so to speak.
In short, he is not perfect. But I have seen him learn, mature and grow already in the year of campaigning, and I expect that he is intelligent and caring enough to learn and perform with the country in mind.
Not to say we won't have big problems - or that things couldn't happen. And, I completely disagree with many of his policies...on the wars, for instance, where he runs the risk of becoming like LBJ (he didn't start the war, but continuing it too long end up giving him ownership).
Make no mistake about it - the forces around him are ultra-powerful. The military-industrial and the medical/insurance cabals together with the oil companies and other industry giants...control a LOT.
A little story which relates a bit - my wife got elected to political office - in a landslide - and the FIRST thing the town manager did was send her a multi-page document which listed all the things she could not do! In other words, the message was "in case you think you have power - read this first - we'll nail your ass to the wall if you so much as try to change things".
I think it is the same - times 1000 - in our Federal Government.
