Ranger 37' 1973 Compression post

Hi I just got into a Ranger 37,
it sat for an unknown time with sludgy h20 in it before being dried it out.

The compression post is 4ft behind the mast and seems to be encapsulated by the mini galley unit in the center of the boat.
:: right on top of the seemingly unaddressable bilge area ::
:: which is my prime concern, for stench and keelbolt surveying ::

I have seen 2 photos of sisterships without this compression post. Which has led me to deem it as an auxiliary compression post.

I just dont think i'll be able to get it back in place if i ever do manage to get it out. So i figured i should ask around before unscrewing everything and yanking around. (if i do get it out)

the sister photos can be seen here
and here is my post.

also.. if any one knows anything else about the build of these interiors. mainly how to get the ceiling down...
