We have moored our boat with a single pennant (smaller than yours) through the hawse hole for as long as we've owned her. We get plenty of wind at times, but little wave action. Chafe on the bobstay has not been a significant issue.
But New England harbours are not nearly as sheltered as Chesapeake creeks.
For anchoring, we bring the
rode in over the roller.
