If the stripe you're referring to is the sheer stripe, that is the stripe next to the deck, if you can afford it, I'd let the pro's do it, too.

But if it is the boot stripe, you might consider the vinyl stripping - it is similar to the vinyl which is used for the names on the sterns of boats, but comes in rolls. It's easy, (take your time and get the bubbles out) it's not expensive, (compared to paint) it's available in almost any color you want (including metallic gold) and it lasts a long time. I put a boot stripe on our boat 12 years ago in vinyl and it's still in good shape. Metallic gold paint can be very pricey.
