We have one - there are nylon gaskets and rubber o rings behind the aluminum plates.

I dismantled mine. cleaned everything. replaced the o rings, scraped smooth the nylon gasket and replaced the stainless nuts and bolts - I re-assmbled with some waterproof grease and thing have held up pretty well. I do keep a srewdriver and wrench to tighten the seals occasionally when i notice a leak.
