Instrument panel came right out

So I have a Volvo Penta 2002 on a 1986 boat, the instrument panel is the standard version. To stop the engine you pull the stop. Only yesterday when I did just that, the whole panel came right out. The panel itself was brittle and the corners (where the panel was screwed in) just broke off.

Never having replaced such a panel before, I need guidance. How is it done? Does anyone know of or have a tutorial or installation manual I can refer to? It doesn't have to be the same model.

For example, one thing I'm wondering is whether I can replace the panel without disconnecting everything from the engine and pulling all the wiring clear out in order to thread the wiring through the holes in the new panel. Or can, say, the stop handle, be removed, the line moved to the new panel, then the handle reattached on the new panel - without pulling the whole thing clear out.
