Mine is a 1978 Seafarer 30, and I paid around the same, as I knew it had been a bit neglected, and needed some TLC. In the end though, I put alot of work, and alot of cash into fixing it up. Some purchases, were not related to the condition of the boat, like Raymarine plotter, with radar, etc really drove up my total costs.
I feel the boat sails very well, although it is a bit squirly with a following sea, on the stern quarter. It has a solid hull, very burly chainplate attachments into fiberglass "knees" that are part of the hull layup.
Weak points include the cheap "faux" wood panelling, etc.
Also, I opened up and rebuilt my rudder, even though it turned out to be dry and fine inside. I would be worried about cracks in the rudder, as it may turn into a big job. Location, cause of crack, etc, should be checked out!
I also replaced the rudder gudeon, and this is something that should definitely be done, if it hasn't already. Mine had a crack, so I had a new custom one fabbed up.
Overall, the boat looks good, and barring any major wet decks, etc, I would think its a decent deal.
