Yeah, I can see that, but I wouldn't have said "slightly".

Of course, one could be summer, the other winter.

And 1973 was during a period of significant temperature decline. This was when the climate scientists were talking about another ice age and concocting plans to sprinkle black dust on the polar caps to help melt them.

Some receding glaciers in europe have uncovered human villages from the middle ages.

Still and all, the water sure was warm.
