Why not install an audible alarm on your engine temp? I put them on everything I own with a combustion engine. One of my cars has an "engine watchdog" which is rather pricy, but much cheaper than a rebuild:

An even cheaper solution is a 105C button type mechanical thermostat attached to your engine with thermal epoxy, and wired in series with a 12v audible alarm.
