If you are at anchor or on a mooring, then you may not need the generator. If you are going to be keeping the boat on a dock, then you probably will. The reason I say this is that if the boat is able to swing head to wind, the wind will supply much of the cooling that you might need. It can't do this if it is sitting at a dock. One investment that would recommend is a boom tent and covers for the fixed ports. This cuts the amount of light and the "greenhouse" effect of the cabin.
