PSC's on the hard for winter - Drain hole in rudder?

Various people have recommended that while the boat is on the hard for the winter (Great Lakes area), I should drill a hole in the base of the rudder for drainage so water can't find its way in, freeze, and cause damage (then re-glass over the hole in the spring). Is this recommended given the way PSC rudders are constructed? Other approaches? Me no likey drilling holes in the boat, especially below the water line.

Do you other PSC owners actually do this?
