Chef - I sort of grew up in OC. My parents had a house in 23rd & West from when I was 9 until about 40. Great memories. First time that I got drunk, meeting my wife, racing, getting more drunk, senior week, .....Nor'easter Yacht Yard, Mac and Mancos (fired twice). Bayview Marina (fired once). When I met my wife, it was on a semi blind date with her, the chef from Great Bay Country Club, and his fiancee. We took a night sail into the ocean on my dad's Catalina 30. Married my date and my Jersey Girl is now the namesake of our boat.
Denise - chef's inlet advice is spot-on. I've surfed most of these inlets and most are shoaled in. You can do this trip. Just take each day one at a time.
I agree that the Delaware current can be intimidating, but once you get past the power plant, it's ok. I REALLY wish that we knew about the spot behind Reedy Island. Instead, we anchored 200 yards off the plant and wrapped our anchor line around the keel in the opposing current. We were cast adrift at 0230, but my dad had anchor watch so we just set sail. That's the night that we learned not to anchor in channels! Read about it in the Boneheaded moves thread (plus lots more!)
