Not all books, but ...
  • Nice big globe to spin, look at, and ponder, and a piece of thread so you can measure distances one place to another. The bigger the globe, the better.
  • Lots of big charts of exotic places, far away reefs, quiet little islands ...
  • Huge world atlas filled with small villages, mountain ranges, valleys, and other places you've never seen or heard of.
  • Copies of ancient maps showing dusty roads, places that have been renamed, political borders and countries long forgotten, ...
  • Star charts and practical astronomy books, binoculars, and a sextant ...
