Every time i have taken a boat to the Islands, I pack $50 worth of T shirts. The kind you can get from the street venders here in New York for 4 or 5 for $10 sometimes 6 for $10. Giving a T shirt as a gift can buy you 100X's more good will with the locals then the $2 it cost you. Think fuel docks, taxi drivers, etc.
