i keep forgeting to post this but most wireless routers default to a max range of 2000 meters. so pretty much any normal router will not allow you to connect past about 1 and a 1/4 miles no matter how much power or antenna size you have.
Using DD-WRT firmware you should be able to tweak your wireless router to maximize your range. That's assuming it is available for said router?
