Well, mine was the day I fought headwinds for an hour while looking at the same spot on the bank in a "skinny water" situation. I was too stubborn to start up the kicker, and had not yet read about reefing the mainsail on this site. I have learned sailing from the school of hard knocks and didn't know about the proper time to reef a mainsail, of all things. I was embarrassed to start up the motor, but did it and went to shore in abject defeat. I still don't know if the boat I had at the time would have sailed upwind with a reefed mainsail. I would say that qualifies for this thread don't you think?
