In matter of sailing or boating -among many other fields- I am ignorant, so don't make fun on me for that, it is common for everyone to be ignorant in many fields.
So, let us start with a simple question.
If I am in a boat and want to spent the night in it in the middle of a sea, what precaution or lights I can make to be safe from some other boats hitting mine?
There is no one, single answer - the nav rules applicable are dependent on WHERE you are, in or out of COLREGs, etc. Also, there is a HUGE difference between what "precautions" to take and what "lights" you are required to display for safety. It also depends on if you are sailing
, under power
, drifting, anchored
There are no simple answers to complex issues.
