I made up similar pcs. of 1/2" ply, kept in a handy storage locker. I think these have to be considered essential for any boat with large sidelights. I don't know how 3/8" acrylic compares to the topsides structure as far as strength goes but the acrylic is probably a weak spot. Have also made pcs. for all other openings such as hatches and smaller portholes. These take up very little room and having them ready probably means never having to use them which is fine with me!
