I've read a few books recently on modern pirating, and they can be quite brutal. Furthermore, their tactics are going to lead to a major environmental disaster as they will target any ship, including oil tankers. One captain of an oil tanker described being boarded and his entire crew being held at gunpoint while his tanker steamed away through a narrow channel without anyone at the helm. Not good.

Personally, I don't think these guys are merely looking for a free meal.

I had a dream where I mounted a SeaWhiz on the bow of my little crusing vessel and taught them a lesson:


Successful cruising couples consist of an optimist and a pessimist. The optimist gets them off the dock and the pessimist keeps them from losing the boat.
