I am not a sailor, but I am interested in buying old sails that can't be used for sailing anymore. Any suggestions on where to look? How much would I expect to pay? Thanks in advance!
If you just want the sails for the material, contact some sailing clubs that have a racing program. Many will give away the used sails when they're no longer suitable for use as sails.
Craigslist is a good avenue for finding old sails... if you want the material for crafts perhaps place an ad there that you will pay for shipping - people are always looking for ways to dispose of old sails (free) other than the landfill.
Sails are heavy, though, and shipping costs might get out of hand.
I have two sails that I will donate if you pay shipping. Estimated square footage is around 500 sq. ft. The sails are on Nantucket, MA. You are probably looking at around $100.00
I've got two or three, with a total area of 700 sq. ft.
I am in Seattle.
I would want nothing but shipping costs, if this is for a good cause.
May I ask what you want them for?
David
