What to do about a low bridge?

I have relatives who just bought a house on the water with an unused dock, and the family is considering buying a sailboat. However, a nasty bridge with just 11-14 feet of clearance (depending on the tide) stands between the house and open water. Since no sailboat in existence that I know of (not even a sunfish) has a mast that short, is there anything that can be done about this?

A mast that could be raised and lowered while underway?

Would it be possible/practical to tip a small boat over and get it under the bridge that way? Or is that crazy

Any advice/suggestions would be much appreciated as we would love to get a sailboat, yet this bridge poses a serious problem.

Thanks
