Great thread. A lot of good info over the years!
I learned the hard way that the coffee pot is a mission critical single point of failure. At least it is if you have a coffee addict on board and the carafe bounces out of the coffee maker smashing on the galley floor a week away from civilization.
I've also learned that I actually like coffee if it's made from freshly ground arabica beans in a French press. The boat is now equipped with one of the backpacker grinders mentioned earlier
GSI Javagrind and a stainless steel press
Buzz Line Desk Press Coffee Press as well as the old drip coffee maker.
The grinder definitely needs a handle. I'm thinking a stainless drawer pull and a couple of small bolts might work.
Of course, now that we've switched to whole beans the grinder becomes the single point of failure. I might need to get one of those Turkish widgets off eBay or carry a couple of unopened half kilo tins marked "For Emergency Use Only".
