I recently took possession of a 1971 Ericson 27 with what I believe to be an original Atomic 4 gas engine. While working on the carb,
fuel filter and
fuel pump I managed to get the engine running, only to discover that my
exhaust pipe was corroded to the point of
exhaust not getting cleanly thru the muffler.
I have taken the
exhaust manifold off of the engine (could not get the flange loose from the manifold. I have been informed that I can recreate the
exhaust pipe with some black iron pipe and some couplings. My problem is that the muffler was what I think is called a "standpipe" muffler. I talked with someone at Moyer Marine that tells me I can put a different muffler in the boat.
Has anyone gone thru the process of replacing their
exhaust system? What sort of muffler did you put in and where did you find it?
Thanks,
Dabney
