This seems more likely to me but is that all their is to it?

Any damage that could result from this incident?
20 years ago, my dad had a little honda outboard that was acting up. It would lose power and eventually quit. We had eliminated the fuel and spark legs of the combustion problem, that left air. He had a small leak in his exhaust. The engine needs 02 to burn. C02 will put fires out, even combustion fires inside your cylinder. Good call on Caleb's part. I wouldn't expect any damage at all to the engine, just a little soot in the engine compartment.
