Not all countries have laws against asking the DOB of an applicant. There is never any legitimate reason to be asking for the mother's maiden name. There may be a legitimate reason to ask the DOB... but I can't think of a good one off hand.
You can not ask a person's age or DOB in a job interview or application. This is a violates the discrimination of age laws in the USA. Never reply to an email that is sent from a generic email account. Even some bogus email accounts appear legit and then are forwarded to a different address.
