I think he's got lucky. I'm trying to figure out the best evacuation/repatriation insurance for Baja Mexico area, and DAN doesn't sound too good:

In other words, if it is urgent it is called "medical emergency" and Curacao hospital can handle it, then DAN pays for transportation to Curacao. OTH, if it is non-urgent, then it's called "medical necessity" DAN may pay for a flight home, or it may not.

Note that this insurance by DAN (from $25 a year per person, as I understand, more for a family or added medical insurance) covers only evacuation or repatriation - not the medical treatment.
