Sabre 28 chainplates

Our 1981 Sabre 28, which we purchased in 2004, had the same problem. The previous owner repaired the bulkhead with fiberglass & epoxy but neglected to retab the bulkhead to the hull. Our 18 year old son, with the assistance of a mentor from Sabre (we live in Maine) retabbed the bulkhead and resurfaced it using 1/8" teak veneer. It's a lot of work (and a very expensive yard job, if you hire it out) but we are pleased with the end result. We had the deck and deckhouse completely stripped and repainted this past winter and rebedded EVERYTHING. Surprisingly, the only core damage we've found has been near the forward starboard porthole (which I repaired) and around the emergency steering access in the cockpit. If you're up to this kind of repair, you'll have a great boat. One option is to have a yard do the structural repair and pick away at the carpentry at your convenience.
