It is true that VA imposes Personal Property rates. However, the rates are not nearly as bad as some might think. We keep Victoria in Northumberland Co. The rate is $3.60 at a 40% assessment which for us is $540. Some counties use 100% assessment. IMO, the benefits of lower slip rental cost and relaxed atmosphere outweigh the higher slip rental cost of many parts of MD. But.....MD's one-time tax of 5% (of the fair market value) is pretty steep, but overall cheaper.

Regardless, it is easy to stay well under $5000 for slip rental.
