Ok, I'll admit it. I usually grind down a 1" collar zinc for our shaft about once every 2 years, as needed. We only have a clearance of around 1/2" between the prop and the cutlass bearing on our old Tartan 27.
I looked into the 'drive savers' but since zincs are cheaper I keep grinding them down with: a grinding wheel, a 4-1/2" grinder and breathe zinc dust now and then.
Not much fun and there has to be a better way.
