Sailor w/o Boat

Hi All,

I've been lurking on SailNet for years, and decided it was time to come clean and start posting on a limited basis.

About me: mid 40's, married, 2 kids, and no boat. My wife hasn't caught the sailing bug, but my 12 y/o son has. If you have any ideas for how to open my wife's mind to our son's growing love for sailing, I'm listening. I'll probably start a thread on that topic over on the Cruising and Sailing with Children area, unless there's one already going.

My first exposure to sailing was about 16 years ago as a catamaran passenger/tourist, island hopping in the Caribbean. From there, I learned how to turtle a friend's Laser on a local lake, and then decided it was time to take a Basic Keelboat class on the Chesapeake. Since then, I've had a blast sailing Sunfish on local lakes, and ocean swells on Little Bay in Sint Maarten.

I also try to get out once a year with some sailing buddies for an off-shore voyage, if the timing is right. I've sailed 24 hours non-stop (4 hours on/ 6 hours off) from SW Harbor, ME to Rock Hall, MD and Halifax NS to Rock Hall, and had a great time on both. I've sailed with the same group of guys off the coast of ME, and sailed from Rock Hall, MD to Hampton, VA. This year, I'm on the leg from Rock Hall to Halifax. My exposure is rather limited, but the people I've met sailing are some of the nicest, most caring, and fascinating people.

Any way, I know that the SailNet community is a great bunch of people too, and I look forward to learning more, and sharing what I can.

Brad
