I'd move #10 further up the list in terms of places that are geographically unique. A small island focused on crabbing, it has a very different flavor. The link below is to a trip report. Personally, I find Smith Island less interesting.

It is the sort of place where you need to have time to speak with the workmen; otherwise, you can easily miss understanding why they stay on the island... those that do.
