If we get enough action here we may get our own Thread, but these beautiful boats are few & far between.!!
I think if you remove the cable housing from the trunk keel you will create a major hole/leak in the boat. You better be a fast worker or have good bilge pumps or both!I am planning on working on this in the water. It looks like it could be done, but I still cant get the cable guide out of the hull. When I tried to turn it with vice grips it almost fell apart. I am pretty sure it will have to be drilled out. Any ideas for the replacement?
The cable housing sticking out under the floor is screwed into the nut welded on the back part of the bracket in the upper part of the keel, and another nut screwed (from the inside, under the floor) with washers and 3M sealant to captivate it. The forward nut is welded on the top inside of the bracket (it helps to captivate the cable from coming off the pulley) Then a bolt with washer & sealant screws into that from under the floor. The problem with a video or more pics is the job is done & the boat is finished. I'd have to take it all apart again. I'm not going to do that.I found the pic of the keel cable pulley adapter you made, I think, in an earlier thread/ page.
Is the part sticking out of the hull under the floor just threaded into the hull?
You mentioned welding the nut on the bracket to fit the cable guide and another nut welded on for the forward mount?
This is a complicated fix for a newbie like myself.
There are enough people having this problem to warrant a complete start to finish video or pics to link to in forum.
Well my boat is moored in Blaine WA. Not too far away. Where did you buy her from? What's the hull # ? These are GREAT boats. You'll love her soon!Hi all. I purchased a 1977 Spirit 23 this week and will be sailing her down to my marine on Sunday.
I am excited! Will be berthed at the Bremerton Marina in Washington state. Anyone else around these parts? windyway it sounds like you may be in the Seattle area?
I will be posting some pics on my website soon and will provide a link here![]()
It depends on the year of the boat the 2 last numbers of the hull is the year. Early winches were in the cabin on the port side berth, later ones where in the cockpit forward port side of seat, near the companionway.Just purchases a Na 23. It look a disaster. The hull is sound but the interior is trashed due to it being on the trailer for the last 10 years. One question is where does the winch for the centerboard mount at. I have sen pics of a salable boat and hope to refit this boat by the end of the summer for a lake trial.
Now if anyone can tell me where the centerboard winch mount at.
Why don't you measure the hole size & length that you need? Buy a rod of that length & diameter taper one end & drill 2 holes for the pins. Probably less work than you had looking for a replacement, or am I crazy?Does anyone with a NA 23 know what the diameter & length of the larger (I believe rear?) stainless pin is that fastens the mast to the base plate? Ours wiggled loose on the mooring last year and I am having a hard time finding a replacement.
Like I said I need the year of the boat.I appreciate the response from windy way, If you had a pic of how it was mounted would be a great help
