Sounds like a great trip. Sorry you didn't make it down to the James. Maybe you could post some pics? I just started reading a book called "Shipwrecks on the Chesapeake" by Donald G. Shomette. I think you would enjoy it. The sections on the Revolution and Civil War spend a lot of time on the James, York, Rappahannock, and Potomac rivers. It is really amazing to learn the history of all these places that we take for granted when out for a sail. I found it used on Amazon, but you may be able to find it in your local library. Hopefully you will make it down to the lower Bay one of these days.
