niftynickers is on a distinguished road
I installed a Beta 1505(37 hp) in my Pacific Seacraft 37 in 2006.Since then have run 1800 hrs cruising from Maine to the Bahamas.Have beaten into headseas for 3 days in the Bahamas and motored thru calms in Long Island Sound. The Beta has never missed a beat.Only maint. problem was a leaking raw water pump.Replaced in less than an hour (2 bolts-upfront).The difference between Beta and Universal is that Univ is owned by Westerbeke and the prices for parts are $475 for an engine water pump for a 5432.$85 at the Kubota dealer for the same pump with gasket.
Beta gives you the Kubota part numbers for their engines with Univ its a guess.
lastly Betas customer service is terrific,Stanley in NC is great to deal with.
Just my 2 cents
