Outboard motor mount repair

Hi Guys,

I own a Tanzer 7.5 and the piece of wood on the motor mount where you attach the motor disintegrated (dropping my new motor in the drink the day I took delivery, but that's another story ).

The dimentions to replace it are roughly 10" x 8.5" x 1.5"

Can I just cut two peices of 3/4 plywood and glue them together and varnish it?

Do I need to use marine plywood? (I've made some inqueries and was told I have to buy the whole sheet which seemed excessive).

Can I buy a piece of that plastic that they use for the more expensive motor mounts?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! It's my first boat, and I consider myself pretty handy, but I've got a lot to learn about maritime standards of workmanship.
