You may consider one of these, allows to raise/lower the engine on the mount. Not cheap though, maybe you could find one on ebay, craigslist, or a local consignment shop such a Bacons & Assoc in Annapolis?

If you choose to fix the one you have, marine plywood coated with epoxy should last a very long time.
