I have my instruments mounted exactly where you're planning them. Simply put, there is nowhere else on my boat that works and I don't want to festoon my helm station with stuff and besides, my thinking was that the only time you can see the instruments at the helm is when you're standing at the helm. On long sails, voyages, that is almost never.

The problem with the coaming location is that there is ALWAYS some sitting in that area and there is ALWAYS a leg, an arm, a bum, whatever in the way and I get really frustrated because I now also have instruments that can seen, well, almost never.

I don't want to offer a solution because I don't know your boat but I believe the cockpit coaming not to be such a good choice.
