I've been sailing on the Chain O' Lakes in IL for the past month. I'm in a little 17 footer. If you know anything about the chain, there is not one power boat out there less than 500 HP. Typically there will be one boat that will go by with poor intent either circling me like I'm a racing buoy, or turning away just as they go by. It happens once every time I go out, but it doesn't bother me much. OK, some people are jerks and they are usually gone quick. Most of the time, they fly by up on plane, making very little wake. About half the boats slow up from 30 down to about 20, creating a bigger wake. Just ignorance. The roar is probably much more annoying than the wake. As long as I know they see me, I really don't care if they go by me at 60+. That just means they are gone sooner. I usually wave, we are all having fun.

Sailing a large boat on a small lake is very tacky.
