Hey pointy, you can certainly sail all year round here, except the odd week when there's snow on the decks or too much ice on the marina.
Always plenty of boats for sale round here, when I was looking I started off considering things like Cal20s, good boats but I would have outgrown them in a season I think. Ended up getting my little C&C instead, which I have to say I absolutely love sailing. I think around 24' is when you start getting that big boat feel, with proper bunks, galley etc. Cost goes up as boat size goes up, you can squeeze a 24' into a 24-25' slip, most marinas are going to charge you 30' for a 27' boat though. If you're up Sidney way, let me know and I'd be happy to show you around my tub, might give you some ideas at least. If the weather is OK, might even get out for a bit.
