Long Vs. short
I'm new to this outboard world so I've got some questions that may be dumber than usual.
The way I understand it the outboards come in long shaft and regular shaft and all sorts of horse powers.
The regular are for the dinghy and the long is for a transom mounted sailboat.
I have a 10' tender, all glass, and am usually happy rowing it.
If I could find a small long shaft outboard on craigslist maybe 4hp, would it work to power the dinghy on longer hauls and at the same time be an emergency motor for a bigger boat lets say a 22 to 25 that would usually take a 10hp.
Obviously the little motor would probably not push the boat if there were even slightly adverse conditions but if it could do both jobs even poorly it might be better than nothing.
What do you think?
