Sailors tend to be penny wise and pound foolish...at least by the boats I have been on...also lured by shiny beads...but cheap, nah.
I would also guess the marina attitude is a $/hassle ratio thing. Sailboats are long and wide and slow and clumsy and the captains tend to be less flexible and more stressed because of it.
