Santa Ana's can be very bad near Catalina. Avalon harbor is a lee shore and can be virtually unprotected. There are pictures of 10' wave breaking inside the harbor. The island's valleys act like funnels and increase the wind speed. Cat harbor has some protected areas but in the middle where the travels over the Isthmus it is very powerful. If Santa Ana winds are predicted, don't go!

The weather in November is usually dry, sunny and cool. It can be an excelent time to sail, just not when the Santa Ana's blow.
