Howdy from the PNW

Just a quick introduction and admission of guilt. I have to admit to having lurked in the background for several years and gleaned a great deal of useful direction from the community. I guess now is the time to come out of the hanging locker and profess thanks to those who frequent this forum with their advice and experience.

Barb and I keep a Hunter 340 in the Gig Harbor, WA. We started our sailing life about 10 years ago on the Columbia River and Oregon/Washington lakes with a trailerable pocket cruiser. After a few years of sourjourning north further and further, we took the plunge on a mid-sized 34' cruiser and are now pushing the limits of our explorations Northward on the Salish Sea. Living in Portland, OR and keeping the boat in Puget Sound presents its challenges in 'messing about' as often as we wish, and maintenance visits need to be a bit more carefully planned. On the upside, however, the far northern horizons and the great people we have met more than compensate for the moderately long drive.

For years, like many of you, I have dreamed of white sands and warm waters beckoning from points south and west in the Pacific. Maybe someday... but for the forseeable future, I am constantly amazed at the variety and breadth of what lies ahead of us as we push ever Northward. We've become fairly familiar with the South Sound, San Juans, Canadian Gulf Islands, and the Discovery Islands and Desolation Sound. The Broughton's beckon, as do Cape Caution, Cape Scott, the Great Bear Rainforest, and SE Alaska.

Thanks for listening, I hope I can return but a portion of what I have learned here from y'all and look forward to a little armchair sailing waiting for the thermometer to creep back above the 30's again (or the 0's for my friends to the North).

Fair winds,
