Float switches are notorious for failing, so it is a good idea to put each pump on a separate float switch if they only share one now. And wiring in the bilges is equally notorious for going bad. For some reason, pump and switch makers seem to think 6" long wires are good enough...when they could just as easily give us 24" and let the splices be made and kept ABOVE the bilge water.

It helps to think of bilge pumps and float switches as "consumables", not "equipment".
